Can real strategy work on a phone?

July 20, 2026 · Marek Doležal

For years I assumed proper strategy games needed a mouse and a big monitor. Iron Tide Command chipped away at that belief and mostly won me over.

The challenge on mobile is the interface. Deep systems need lots of information, and screens are small. The best solution I've seen is careful layering — show the essentials, tuck the details a tap away.

Turn-based design helps enormously. Without real-time pressure, cramped controls stop being a dealbreaker, and you can plan at your own pace.

It's not perfect yet. Menus still get busy. But if you've written off strategy on your phone, it's worth another look — the genre has quietly grown up here.
